Oilseeds

Oilseeds are a group of plants whose seeds contain large amounts of edible oil. These seeds are widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and health industries. The most important oilseeds include rapeseed, soybean, sunflower, sesame, almond, walnut, hazelnut, and flax.

The oil extracted from these seeds is an important source of essential fatty acids such as omega-3 and omega-6, which are very important for the health of the body, especially the cardiovascular system. Some of these seeds, such as flax and chia, have gained much attention in healthy diets due to their high levels of fiber, antioxidants, and protein.

In Iran, oilseed cultivation has also grown significantly in recent years. The aim of this measure is to reduce dependence on imported edible oils and increase domestic production. For example, rapeseed is one of the most widely consumed oilseeds in the country, which is both resistant to weather conditions and produces oil of good quality.

Given the increasing population and the growing need for healthy and nutritious food sources, attention to the development of oilseed planting and processing plays an important role in ensuring food security and the health of the community. Also, by utilizing modern agricultural methods and seed breeding, the yield of these products can be increased and their economic role in national production can be strengthened.
